Application Fee and Deposit Waiver
Appalachian State University waives both Undergraduate and Graduate application fees as we recognize what it means to have this unique population of students on campus. Additionally, the deposit to hold your spot is also waived!
Transfer Credit
Appalachian State values the experiences that veterans bring to the university. That is why student veterans are awarded two hours of General Education Wellness Literacy transfer credit and up to six hours of Military Science and Leadership transfer credit. Transfer credit may also be awarded for certain college and military courses (Transfer Equivalency Course Search). In order to receive additional credit from their military service, veterans must submit their Joint Service Transcript during the application process.

Priority Academic Registration
Appalachian recognizes the many competing priorities that student veterans have. That is why self-identified veterans have been given priority academic registration to build their prefered schedule and maximize their 36 months of Post 9/11 GI Bill benefits.
All seniors and graduate students register for classes on the first two days of the 11 day registration period regardles of veteran status. Registration times for seniors and graduate students are based on the number of credit-hours they have earned. Student veteran priority registration for freshmen, sophmores, and juniors takes place on the third day of the registration period as follows:
- Juniors - 8:00am
- Sophmores - 11:00am
- Freshmen - 2:00pm
All students must schedule a meeting with their academic advisor before the registration period. At that meeting student veterans will receive a priority registration PIN which allows them to enter the online class registration system at the appropriate time.
Graduation Honor Cord
To honor the committment and sacrifice of military-affliated students, Student Veteran Services gives each student veteran a red, white and blue honor cord to wear at their graduation commencement ceremony.
Priority Parking Permit Registration
All student veterans at Appalachian State are allowed to register for a parking permit with seniors and graduate students on the first day of the parking permit registration period. This is to ensure that student veterans have the best chances at selecting a parking permit that works for their needs. However in order to receive priority parking permit registration, the student must be identified as a veteran in the university system.
