Chapter 31 (Veteran Readiness and Employment)


Veteran Readiness and Employment (Chapter 31) benefits are managed by the VA Veteran Readiness and Employment Division in the Winston-Salem, NC Regional Benefit Office. In order to receive CH31 benefits, you must have submitted an application and been approved for CH31 benefits.

Step 1. If you have not been approved for CH31 benefits, follow these steps to apply online:

Step 2. Once approved for VR&E services, register for classes at Appalachian as soon as your enrollment timeslot opens.

To see when you may begin enrolling for the upcoming term, log into your AppalNet and view Registration Time.


Step 3. Send your CH31 Veteran Readiness & Employment approval letter to studentveteranservices@appstate.edu. 


Step 4. Once we have received your Certificate of Eligibility, we will alert you to the opening of your Enrollment Verification form.

You must complete the Enrollment Verification form as soon as possible once alerted. The Enrollment Verification form will need completed before the beginning of each semester. 


Information regarding VA payments, payment schedules, specific eligibility or benefit information are not covered by Student Veteran Services. Call the VA Educational Assistance line at 888-442-2551 for any of these concerns.

NOTE: Upon completion of your enrollment certification, your student account is automatically coded to defer tuition/fee payment requirements. Invoicing will take place directly with the VA Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E) Division.

NOTE: Following the first day of the term, any schedule change made after the completion of your enrollment verification may result in a VA debt.
