While I don't consider my 4 years of service in the USAF newsworthy, it was definitely memorable in a personal light. My initial enlistment reasons were purely for personal gain so that I could obtain the GI Bill for a college education. However, what I learned through technical training, time-management, and life lessons did more for me than I could have ever imagined. When my four-year commitment was up and I was finally able to attend college, the military experience made me appreciate every day that I was able to step foot on the campus at the University of Florida and attend classes. I eventually earned a BS in Electrical Engineering and went on to work in the Global Communications Industry for 23+ years.
Those who served in war-time and fought on the front lines are the true heroes in my mind, which is why I don't like to hold a spotlight. There are those who deserve that and much more.
