Heroes Week 2023 Schedule of Events

Veterans Week events will be held at multiple locations on the App State campus and throughout Boone from Friday, Nov. 3, through Saturday, Nov. 11.

Friday, Nov. 3

  • Military Mountaineer Homecoming in Plemmons Student Union Solarium| 6 p.m. | Please join us for an evening of fellowship and fun in the Solarium of the Plemmons Student Union. We will be hosting a silent auction to benefit our student veteran center. Tours of the center will be provided, and appetizers will be served throughout the evening. Saturday, Nov. 4

  • Heroes Day Tailgate at McKinney Alumni Center | 2:00 p.m. | Join us for the 2023 Heroes Day Tailgate presented by the Military Affairs Committee at the McKinney Alumni Center. The tailgate will be packed with all the gameday essentials, followed by the football game at The Rock. So get out your black and gold, and get ready to be a part of a fun and memorable weekend in the High Country.

  • Heroes Day football game at Kidd Brewer Stadium—App State vs. Marshall | 6:00 p.m. | Join us for the annual Heroes Day Football game when the Mountaineers face off against Marshall at Kidd Brewer Stadium in Boone.

Tuesday, Nov. 7

  • 5K SVA Fundraiser| We will be hosting a 5K at Brookshire Park for anyone who would like to attend. This event can also be done virtually. Just post a picture and tag us on your Instagram (appstateveterans) or Facebook (Student Veterans Association of Appalachian State University). The registration fee is $12 and comes with a 5K t-shirt and an SVA bottle opener. This registration fee goes directly back into the Student Veterans Association. Wednesday, Nov. 8

  • Student Veteran Association (SVA) Fundraiser Pint Night at Appalachian Mountain Brewery. One dollar from every pint sold will be donated to the Student Veteran  Association | 5–7 p.m.

Thursday, Nov. 9

  • The Office of Diversity and Student Veteran Services are excited to host a screening of the 6888 Battalion documentary followed by a panel discussion. Register here (link is external)

Friday, Nov. 10

  • Veterans Day Ceremony and Reception at the B.B. Dougherty Administration Building lobby | 9 a.m.

  • Veterans Day Faculty and Staff Luncheon | 11–1 p.m.
